2024 will be the first American presidential election in which artificial intelligence (AI) tools are widely available. AI makes it easy for anyone with a smartphone to create bogus – but convincing – content to impersonate candidates and deceive voters. Congress has a chance to act before U.S. voters go to the polls.

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) chairs the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, which has jurisdiction over election-related issues.
